Oscar Whatmore
I’ve been a drummer since before I can remember – starting out breaking my mum’s wooden spoons on pots and pans before moving onto real drums at the age of 8. My first band grew out of the school jazz band and started gigging around Bournemouth when I was 13. Since then I’ve played with bands and solo artists of almost every genre on drum kit and percussion
Influences: I listen to a wide range of music, but my main things are funk, jazz and classic rock.
Jon Bonham, Clyde Stubblefield and Joe Morello are my favourite drummers and as a percussionist I’ve drawn on the likes of Santana and Tito Puente as well as immersing myself in African and Latin American music.
Equipment Used: vintage Kay fibreglass congas (more or less identical to early 70s LP fiberglass congas), Natal bongos, LP timbales, cowbells & guiro, Zildjian & Stagg cymbals, Promark drum sticks.
